Meet our team

The Investment Club at USF is the largest organization across our university’s three campuses. Membership has increased from 320 members in Fall 2021 to 1,800+ members in Fall 2022, representing a ~463% year-over-year increase, and as of Fall 2023, we have 2,200+ members. This growth has been driven by the club’s collective efficiency in expanding its brand awareness across campus.

The Investment Club at USF expanded its presence on campus with the addition of the Asset Management, Executive Office, and Wealth Management Team, which debuted in the Fall of 2021, Fall of 2022, and Spring of 2023, respectively.

GLOBAL INVESTMENT RESEARCH

The Global Investment Research Team (“GIR”) publishes bi-weekly research reports designed to provide a holistic overview of the prior two weeks of the market while presenting prospective investment opportunities by sector. The team is comprised of seven (7) groups of three (3) or more Associates and one (1) lead Analyst and totals 24 active team members. The GIR Team seeks to provide members with fundamental skills necessary for successful placement in competitive recruitment processes, including equity research, asset management, hedge funds, and sales & trading.

Sector-specific teams conduct in-depth research on a specific public company and present investment merits and risks in a concise one-pager outfitted with integrated DCF analysis outputs and a python-programmed price graph. The reports are assessed by the Asset Management team to determine if future diligence is necessary to pursue an investment in a process that simulates the real-world sell- and buy-side process.

ASSET MANAGEMENT

The Asset Management Team (“AM”) follows both bottom-up and top-down investment approaches on differentiated public companies screened by the Global Investment Research Team and those sourced directly by AM. The Asset Management Team is comprised of three sub-teams, including the Portfolio Team, the Deal Teams, and the Quantitative Team. AM seeks to provide its members with technical skills for job placements in high finance including investment banking, private equity, investment management, and quantitative trading.

The Portfolio Team uses a set of proprietary screening criteria to source potential investment opportunities, in addition to managing IC’s stocks portfolio. The Deal Teams conduct further due diligence on investment opportunities recommended by the Global Investment Research Team and the Portfolio Team whose findings are presented to the Investment Committee of IC in seeking approval to purchase the stocks of the underwritten businesses. The Quantitative Team builds trading algorithms that aim for risk-adjusted, uncorrelated and / or high returns.

WEALTH MANAGEMENT

The Wealth Management Team (“WM”) was formed from a merger between the Investment Club at USF and the Financial Planning Association in the Fall 2022 semester. The introduction of WM fulfills IC’s vision to provide students interested in personal financial planning with the technical and interpersonal skills to succeed in client-focused careers. Team members will research various elements of personal finance, including budgeting, building credit, and emergency funds, tax-efficient investing, saving for short-term goals, and insurance strategies.

EXECUTIVE OFFICE

The Executive Office (“EO”) is the core division within IC focused on the organization’s inner workings to ensure optimal integration across all functions. Besides building and preserving IC’s culture, EO also partners with other student organizations to source high-impact opportunities to showcase USF’s talent pool and facilitate students’ professional development.
